The FBI says a domestic terror network plotted to hit the UFC Freedom 250 event on the South Lawn of the White House on June 14, using explosive drones and snipers to create chaos and then storm the grounds, and federal agents moved quickly to disrupt the scheme and make multiple arrests.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation says the alleged plot was first uncovered on June 10, with one arrest in Cincinnati, Ohio, and additional detentions bringing the total to five by June 15. Investigators have identified 23 possible co-conspirators linked to planning discussions and travel preparations tied to the event.
Officials describe a layered attack that would have flown explosive-laden drones into buildings around the UFC event to force evacuations and create targets for snipers. The plan reportedly included a follow-up assault aimed at breaching the White House gate after the initial chaos had been sown.
Agents recovered evidence showing the network used the Signal encrypted messaging app to coordinate. A forensic review of one suspect’s phone reportedly produced the names of two dozen people involved in the discussions, and multiple individuals had made plans to travel to Fredericksburg, VA, ahead of the fight night.
The FBI says it worked closely with the United States Secret Service to dismantle the threat before any attack could take place. In a statement, Secret Service Director Sean Curran said, “In the days leading up to this weekend, our special agents, mission support personnel, and technical security teams worked around the clock to identify those responsible and hold them accountable.” He also indicated more details will appear in court filings.
One suspect allegedly told investigators the intended targets were “capitalist elites” and “billionaires,” alongside politicians who receive donations from the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC). Those reported motivations underline how political and economic grievances can be twisted into violent plots that threaten ordinary citizens as much as public figures.
FBI Director Kash Patel commented on the operation, saying, “Thanks to the rapid action of this FBI, our partners, and the Department of Justice in a multi-state operation, multiple individuals are now in custody, and allegedly planned attacks were stopped cold.” The case is being handled as an interagency effort, with arrests spread across several states.
From a Republican perspective, this incident reinforces the need to back law enforcement and ensure they have the tools to move fast when terror plots emerge inside our borders. It also highlights the danger of ideologically driven violence against gatherings meant to be public celebrations, and the obligation to protect people who attend such events without fear.
Court documents and filings are expected to provide a clearer timeline and fuller picture of who was involved and how the plan developed. Prosecutors will ultimately lay out charges and evidence, and additional arrests or indictments remain possible as the investigation continues.
